A train derailed in India, cause of accident still unknown
Dubai: Thirty-five passengers were injured after a train was derailed in the city of Raebareli, near Lucknow.
According to reports, nine coaches of the New Farakka Express train derailed and the accident killed seven people.
On twitter, #Raebareli was trending as online users took to social media to discuss the reason for the crash and the irresponsibility of the government.
Though Rae Bareli is ruled by the Congress, most of the tweets calling the present government to action were from Congress party members.
Congress party member Shama Mohammad (@drshamamohd) tweeted: “Deeply saddened to hear of the train derailment in #Raebareli. My condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured. @PiyushGoyal, please talk about safety of train passengers and not the ‘Golden Run’ of the #rupee.”
And Congress Member of Parliament Aditi Singh @AditiSinghINC said: “Deeply saddened at the loss of lives and injuries in derailment of #NewFarakkaExpress in #RaeBareli. My condolences to the bereaved families.”
According to a report by Indian broadcast channel NDTV, the UP Chief minister has offered Rs2 lakh (Dh200,000) to the families of the victims and Rs50,000 (Dh2473) for those injured. Despite this, some tweeps were not happy. @omersajj posted: “It is terrible that railways have had so many accidents and so little has been done to haul it up.”
In another tweet he added: “Announcement of compensation is the easiest thing to do for any lazy government.”
While @AshishAshishn17 tweeted: “Railway minister should resign.”
The cause of the accident is still unknown and the final death toll has not been confirmed yet.
