New Delhi: The quarantine period for home isolation patients in the national capital, who have been tested positive for COVID-19, has been reduced to 7 days from 14 days.
As per the fresh guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, if in the seven days of home isolation, the patient does not have any symptoms for three consecutive days, then the patient can be discharged from home isolation without a COVID test.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said that the third COVID-19 wave had started in the national capital and around 10,000 cases are expected by evening.
“The Covid cases can jump close to 10,000 today with the infection rate nearing 10 per cent by today evening in Delhi,” said Jain in a press briefing on Wednesday morning.
India has logged 58,097 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate is at 4.18 per cent the Union Health Ministry informed on Wednesday.
The active caseload of COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 2,14,004.
As per the Ministry, 2,135 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in India, of which 828 have recovered.
Maharashtra and Delhi are among the worst-hit states with the highest number of recorded Omicron cases at 653 and 464 respectively.
As many as 482,551 recoveries and 534 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours were also reported by the Ministry. While the cumulative recoveries from the virus stand at 34,321,803, the total COVID-19 deaths were reported to be 482,551.
