Hyderabad: As the COVID-19 virus continues to spread its deadly tentacles, 48 staff members and their kin in Telangana Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) have tested positive. However, the Governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan, was safe as her test report has turned out to be negative.

Those found positive include 20 policemen on duty at the Raj Bhavan, ten other staff members and ten of their family members, prompting the authorities to send all of them to quarantine. Affected policemen were sent back to their battalion for quarantine and treatment, official said.

After so many positive cases, 150 members of the Raj Bhavan staff were also sent for Corona tests and their condition was being monitored.

Positive cases in Raj Bhavan came to light when the governor was actively monitoring the state government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in a verbal duel between the state administration and the Raj Bhavan.

Governor Soundararajan has repeatedly expressed her dissatisfaction with the way the state government was been handling the pandemic and wanted the number of tests to be increased.

The average number of positive cases is now hovering around 1,200 per day, down from nearly 1,900 last week. On Sunday, Telangana had recorded 1,269 positive cases, taking the total number of cases to 34,671, with eight more deaths reported, thereby taking the toll up to 356.
