Sources say the two discussed a change of guard in the party's state leadership
New Delhi: Maharashtra chief minister Prthviraj Chavan called on Congress party president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday amidst speculations that the party is in the process of a big revamp in the state.
Chavan, then a junior minister in the Prime Minister's Office, was handpicked by Sonia to head the coalition government in Maharashtra in November 2010 when the incumbent chief minister Ashok Chavan had to quit in the wake of the Adarsh Housing Society scandal.
According to sources in the Congress party, while there have been complaints from some quarters about Chavan's style of functioning, the failure of the Congress party in the Mumbai municipal corporation elections has further alarmed the party since barely two years are left before the state elects its new legislative assembly elections.
While details of Sonia-Chavan talks are not yet available, sources in the party indicated they discussed various measures, including change of guard in the party's state leadership and revamp the organisation at various levels to make it fighting fight.
There is currently no threat to Chavan's continuation in the post, sources added.
