Due to waterlogging, traffic was slow-moving in many areas
Bengaluru has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past two days, with the last six hours seeing particularly intense downpours. This has been the heaviest rainfall the city has experienced so far this year.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Kengeri, where 132 mm fell. Other areas, such as Jnana Bharathi, RR Nagar, and Nayandahalli, experienced 106 mm of rainfall on Saturday night. The heavy rain caused water to enter 20 houses in Kumaraswamy Layout and Nagadevanahalli near Kengeri, with residents using utensils and buckets to clear the water. Additionally, ten cars were damaged after water entered an apartment complex at Kenchenahalli in RR Nagar. Heavy rain also caused water to enter the basements of various apartment complexes in RR Nagar and Kengeri. Due to waterlogging, traffic was slow-moving at Kengeri, RV College, and Jayaramdas Junction on Mysuru Road. BBMP teams managed to pump out the water, allowing vehicles to move smoothly.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for continued rainfall in Karnataka, affecting 23 districts, including Bengaluru, from Monday through Thursday. The warning includes forecasts of moderate to heavy thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 50-60 km/h speeds. In response, local authorities in Bengaluru are on high alert following heavy downpours on Sunday. The IMD's alert aims to caution the public and ensure preparedness to mitigate potential damage and disruptions due to the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
