Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of Air India flight AI 171, was discharged from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital late Tuesday night, hospital officials confirmed. Vishwas, originally from Diu and currently residing in Leicester, had miraculously escaped the burning wreckage of the ill-fated flight, making him the only passenger to survive the devastating crash.

According to Dr Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Vishwas was the second patient admitted from the crash site and has now recovered enough to return home. The hospital had offered assistance to help transport Vishwas to his family’s residence in Diu. The airline also arranged hotel accommodations for him and his relatives. However, the family opted to handle the arrangements independently.

As the investigation into the crash of flight AI 171 continues, Vishwas’s survival offers a rare glimmer of hope in an otherwise sombre tragedy that claimed the lives of 278 people, including passengers, crew, and civilians on the ground.
