Patna: A 10-year-old girl bled to death after being raped in the Rajnagar block of Madhubani district on Tuesday evening.

The brutal incident comes barely two weeks after a 15-year-old was found dead in Haryana. She had been raped and mutilated.

The victim of the latest incident was studying in Grade 5 and had joined a group of villagers on their way to immerse idols of deity Saraswati. She lost the group midway.

As villagers were returning in the evening, they saw the semi-naked body of the girl lying unconscious on the road, bleeding. She was taken to the local government hospital, but died within five minutes of being admitted there.

“She was admitted around six in the evening. We found dagger marks around her private parts and blood oozing from there. She died soon after,” Dr Ramesh Kumar Paswan who treated the victim said. He said she bled to death.

Hospital authorities said she may have been gang-raped. Police have recovered two sets of slippers and a sack soaked with blood from the spot. “We have ordered a post mortem,” district magistrate, Madhubani, Shirshat Kapil Ashok said.

Last month, three nuns were gang-raped at gunpoint at an ashram (spiritual retreat) in Nawada district of Bihar, allegedly by the ashram’s volunteers.
