The US Embassy in India has issued a stern warning to Indian and international students studying in the United States, emphasising the importance of adhering strictly to the conditions of their student visas.

The embassy cautioned that violations such as skipping classes, dropping out, or leaving academic programmes without proper notification to their institutions could result in immediate visa revocation and potential ineligibility for future US visas.

This advisory comes amid a broader crackdown on visa compliance, with reports indicating that over 1,000 students, primarily from India, have faced sudden visa revocations or Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) terminations since March 2025. Many affected students were on Optional Practical Training (OPT), and the revocations have disrupted their education and career plans.

The US Embassy’s warning serves as a crucial reminder for students to maintain full-time enrollment and communicate any changes in their educational status to their institutions. Failure to comply with visa regulations not only jeopardises current legal status but also future opportunities to study or work in the United States.
