The United States has launched an expedited visa process, called the “FIFA Pass”, for fans holding tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, AFP reported. The initiative offers prioritised visa appointments, helping ticket holders travel to the US more smoothly.

Trump urges fans to apply early

President Donald Trump encouraged prospective visitors to apply as soon as possible. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, he said: “For those who intend to join us for the World Cup, I strongly encourage you to apply right away.”

Infantino stresses significance

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has frequently appeared with Trump since January, described the FIFA Pass as a “very important announcement.” He added: “If you have a ticket for the World Cup, you can have a prioritised appointment to get your visa… We’ll have between five and 10 million people coming to America from all over the world, and with this FIFA Pass, legitimate fans can attend in the best conditions.”

Rubio warns: Ticket ≠ entry

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that a ticket does not guarantee entry into the country. “It guarantees you an expedited appointment, but you’re still going through the same vetting,” he said. He also advised fans that interviews would be scheduled within six to eight weeks and urged early applications.

World Cup a major US event

Trump has positioned the World Cup as a centerpiece of both his second presidency and the 250th anniversary of US independence in 2026. AFP noted the US is working to reassure international visitors despite concerns that Trump’s stricter border policies could impact travel.

Purpose of the FIFA Pass

With 5–10 million international visitors expected, the US aims to deliver a seamless experience. The FIFA Pass is designed to ensure legitimate fans can attend without unnecessary delays, according to Infantino.

Key travel requirements

  • Passport validity: Must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

  • Visa exemptions: Canadian and Bermudan passport holders do not require additional authorisation.

  • Visa Waiver Program: Citizens of 42 eligible countries can apply via ESTA.

  • Other countries: A valid B1/B2 US visitor visa is required.

Apply now

If you do not yet have a US visa, the Department of State recommends applying immediately. The process maintains national security and public safety while enabling smooth access for fans and teams.

Upcoming events

The World Cup draw will take place in Washington on December 5, alongside FIFA’s announcement of a new peace prize, sparking widespread speculation in the media.
