Abu Dhabi Police released a video on social media depicting flying cars and robots as part of its future plans
Dubai: Police in Abu Dhabi are taking residents into the future, and you can now see how far law enforcement authorities are planning to go.
On its official Twitter account, Abu Dhabi Police posted a 45-second video clip of how its police force will look like by 2057.
The video was posted on social networking sites ahead of the Future Police of Abu Dhabi at the Armed Forces Officers Club on Wednesday, while the Ministry of Interior holds the Forensic Science and DNA conference from November 14-16.
The initiative, according to organisers, is part of the Ministry of Interior’s Future Foresight Series and provides a platform for key decision-makers to develop forward-looking strategies and plans to shape the future, and ensure continuous evolution of police forces and meet and exceed the ever-changing security threats.
“The Ministry’s Future Foresight Series are aimed at developing tools, data capability and the skills required for future foresight,” it read on the conference’s website.
“[The] use of qualitive and quantitive methods to predict the nature an importance of future trends and developments and analyse their impact on the entities work related areas, as well as identification and selection of the best alternatives based on trends to enable the entity to achieve its objectives.”
Police and technology
UAE Police forces are implementing cutting edge technology for traffic monitoring and control including robotic cameras, ShotSpotter, tablets and drones.
Abu Dhabi
Police have developed and invested in a LED early warning system to alert drivers in foggy or poor visibility conditions.
Abu Dhabi General Directorate for Security Affairs and Ports have invested in the Shoeprint Image Capture and Retrieval Database (SICAR) project for use by the crime scene investigation teams.
Police is utilising cutting-edge 3D imaging technologies in their crime scene, forensic investigation departments to support crime scene documentation.
Police have also reduced traffic accident casualties by 15%, and serious injuries by 19%, while accidents decreased by 13% in the three years between 2013 and 2015 in Abu Dhabi.
These numbers were revealed by Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, who confirmed the positive impact of using smart technologies and the ‘Smart Police Officer’, ‘Smart Towers’ in safety indicators.
Dubai
Dubai Police have invested Dh291.5 million in six new smart police stations with the latest advanced technology.
During GITEX 2017, police unveiled its flying bike, which works on electricity and can fly at five metres height and carry a policeman during emergency situations and heavy traffic.
Dubai Police also successfully used gait analysis to solve crimes to identify suspects.
Dubai Police have invested in cutting-edge search and rescue equipment including robotic underwater mini rovers and sonar detection devices to improve response time for emergency situations.
Northern Emirates
Sharjah Police will invest Dh30 million in smart camera systems over five years from 2014- 2018
Sharjah Police have invested in eye scanners to ensure correct identification of individuals to overcome the challenge of counterfeit documentation.
Ras Al Khaimah Police have invested in an extensive CCTV network that includes more than 40,000 establishments, including federal and local government buildings.
