The Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-Up (ZCCF) will organise today an international conference on water resources and future planning in the Middle East.
The two-day conference, called Challenges and Future of Water in the Middle East, will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and ZCCF Chairman.
At the conference, Taha Shafiq Al Atrash, former Syrian irrigation minister, will read a paper on Strategy of Using Water Resources in Syria and Possible Threats. Ismat Falouh, President of Water and Water Security Studies Centre at the Arab League, will review the international legal points regarding the water crisis in the region.
Dr Mona Mustafa Al Qadi from Egypt will shed light on the water crisis in the Arab world. Professor Ilyas Salama from Jordan University will highlight the water resources in the Arab countries.
A number of experts from the UAE will also take part in the conference and present their papers on different aspects of the issue.
The ZCCF will itself make a presentation on the efforts of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in preserving the water resources through a paper on Water Security in Zayed's Policy.
