DUBAI A six-year-old Jordanian girl living in Ajman had a surprise waiting for her when she returned home last Saturday evening.

As she walked into her room, she stopped in her tracks, bewildered by what greeted her. Her bedroom had been given a Dh15,000 revamp by furniture retailer Home Centre.

The home décor company picked Jana as one of four winners from the UAE of their 2016 ‘Room Makeover’ contest.

“I cannot believe how different Jana’s room looks. Before it was bare and looked so boring. Now it is bright and cheerful,” said her mother Mona.

“What is more, it is done up in all her favourite colours – pink and blue. Jana was so excited to see that she also got a new double-bed and cupboard. We are all so excited with the wonderful gift from Home Centre,” she added.

Michelle Dinsmore, head of visual merchandising, Home Centre, said: “We carefully did Jana’s room keeping in mind girls of her age like a lot of accessories and colour. We used fresh colours and made sure to place a number of storage boxes just so it is tidy all the time. We have fitted things in such a way that her parents can change the inherent theme anytime.”

The fourth season of the contest commenced on January 17, with participants being asked to share their thoughts with Home Centre brand ambassador Nancy Ajram on why they deserve to win.
