Dubai: The UAE is bracing for a wave of extreme heat this week, with temperatures soaring across the country and officials urging residents to take precautions.

According to AccuWeather, Dubai will experience hazy sunshine and sweltering heat today, with temperatures peaking at 42°C. Tonight, conditions will remain uncomfortably warm with a low of 34°C and mostly clear skies. Abu Dhabi is also feeling the heat, reaching a high of 42°C under mostly cloudy skies, with a nighttime low of 33°C. While the thermometer reads 33°C, the "real feel" in Abu Dhabi is a scorching 41°C, raising concerns about heat-related health risks.

Looking ahead, Thursday is expected to bring dangerously high heat levels, prompting public health warnings. Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors, stay hydrated, and avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts partly to mostly cloudy conditions today across the country, with a chance of convective cloud formation in eastern and southern areas by afternoon, potentially bringing isolated rainfall. Temperatures in the interior regions could climb as high as 47°C, while coastal and island areas may see highs of 45°C. Even mountain regions will be significantly warm, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 36°C.

Light to moderate Southeast to Northeast winds, occasionally freshening to speeds of up to 35 km/h, may stir up blowing dust, further reducing visibility and air quality in some regions.

Heat safety tips:

  • Stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day (11am – 4pm)

  • Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity

  • Check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and children
