Abu Dhabi has launched its first fully air-conditioned outdoor walkway, a new initiative designed to improve urban living in the emirate’s hot climate.
Located in the Al Nahyan area near the Al Mamoura building, the walkway features a state-of-the-art cooling system embedded along the pathway, maintaining a steady temperature of 24°C year-round.
Launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the project aims to offer residents and visitors a comfortable pedestrian experience, even during the peak summer months.
In addition to climate control, the walkway includes retail outlets, cafés, and outdoor seating areas that are designed for use throughout the year. Its innovative design allows natural sunlight to filter through while keeping the cool air inside.
To further enhance the experience, the walkway’s walls incorporate advanced sound insulation, creating a tranquil environment shielded from city noise.
This project marks the first phase of the city’s strategy to integrate cutting-edge technology into public spaces.
