UAE national girl sets up own website

An energetic little girl has shared her views, ideas and knowledge with UAE kids by writing stories on a website that she has designed with the help of her mother.

Amna Al Ali, a nine-year-old UAE national girl, is studying in the 4th standard of Sheikh Zayed Private Academy for girls in Abu Dhabi. The website (http://www.uae-kidsweb.com) is mainly aimed at telling children all around the world about the history, culture and heritage of the UAE from a kid's point of view.

"This site will help children and their parents know about events and activities that take place in the emirates," said Amna, who writes stories for the website in English. Her stories are easy to read and understand by children.

Amna's mother said she helped her daughter in designing and the site has entirely been constructed according to Amna's thoughts and ideas. Amna said her mother is her sole inspiration in creating this website. She also learned HTML, a coded language used in creating a website.

Amna is the eldest in the family with two younger sisters and loves ice skating, swimming and playing at the school's gym. The minute she is free at home, she spends it on her laptop writing stories for children.

"I am very proud of Amna. After spending the whole day in school and with two hours of tuitions at home, she still has the energy to learn and explore something new," said the mother.

The website features the latest news pertaining to children and it also has an interactive calendar which lists events and activities specifically for kids. The 'Learn about UAE' section has information about the history, culture and heritage of the country.

The site also has a gallery of photographs and a link to "fun places to go to" that lists entertainment facilities for children. Some sections of the site are still under construction.

"We are also giving an opportunity to other children to write about their favourite books, games, movies for the site," said the girl's mother. She said kids having interesting UAE pictures can also submit them to be put on the site.

"We plan to add a learning course in basic Arabic language on the site, giving an opportunity to children from other countries to learn the language," her mother pointed out.

The site has been facilitated by an Internet publishing firm that helps in creating quality web contents and attracts thinkers and writers by providing them with publishing technology. "I had applied by writing an article which was approved by the firm and now it helps us," said Amna.
