The prize, that includes an award of $20,000, recognises meritorious and innovative activities in improving communication in rural communities, mainly in the developing countries.
Unesco yesterday circulated candidature form in the emirates through the Ministry of Information and Culture, inviting individuals and organisations to submit nominations to the IPDC Secretariat in Paris by December 1.
Unesco's circular is addressed to all national commissions and non-government organisations working in the field of communications such as newspapers, radio and television agencies, the publishing media and the film industry.
The prize will be given for the eighth time during the 22nd session of the Intergovernmental Council of the IPDC that will be held from March 28 to 30 next year in Paris.
Unesco has asked that nominations reach the IPDC Secretariat, 7 Place de Fontenoy, 75352 Paris 07 SP, by December 1, 2001 at the latest.
The nominations should be accompanied by a biographical statement of the candidate or group of candidates, a detailed description of the work for which the candidature is put forward, along with supporting documents and Unesco's completed candidature form. The supporting documents should be in English or French.
Nominations will be submitted through the chairperson of the Intergovernmental Council of the IPDC to its bureau which will act as the jury for the selection of a prize winner.
