The Ministry of Environment and Water has banned the import of all live domestic, wild and ornamental birds and their products from Canada. The ban is to remain active until the health situation regarding the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) becomes clear.

The ban came after Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, issued a ministerial decision.

The decision excludes heat-treated poultry meat in accordance with the provisions of ministerial resolution No.9 of 2012.

The decision was adopted following published reports by OIE announcing that HPAI outbreaks have occurred in Canada.

The Ministry of Environment and Water is a member of international organisations related to animal health and continuously monitors any epidemiological reports published by these organisations.
