UAE: Indian expat wins Range Rover from Big Ticket after trying luck for nearly a decade

Abu Dhabi: After trying his luck in hitting the jackpot for nearly a decade, an Indian expat in the UAE has finally won a luxury car from Abu Dhabi’s Big Ticket.

During the Series 272 Big Ticket draw, Babulingam Paul Thurai was named the lucky winner who drove home the Range Rover Velar, the organisers announced on Monday.

A 39-year-old civil engineer from Tamil Nadu, who has been calling Sharjah home for the past nine years, has just had his luck take a remarkable turn.

Having first discovered Big Ticket nearly a decade ago, he initially used to purchase tickets with his colleagues, a tradition he kept up for five years. But in recent years, he decided to try his luck solo, buying tickets every month—and now, that decision has finally paid off.

Speaking about his excitement, Thurai said: “When I found out I had won, I was overwhelmed with happiness. It’s an incredible moment for me and my family.”

However, he has decided against keeping the car. “My plan is to cash in the car prize to settle some financial commitments and, most importantly, to secure my children’s future education,” he revealed.

Though the win has given him “a great sense of relief and hope,” Thurai is not going to stop trying his luck.

“I will definitely continue participating in Big Ticket, and I encourage others to do the same—keep believing, keep buying, and one day, your luck will shine too,” he stated.

This March, one lucky ticket holder will walk away with a staggering Dh15 million grand prize. Big Ticket is also giving 10 lucky customers the chance to win Dh50,000 each in the live draw on April 3.

All contestants who purchase two or more cash tickets in a single transaction between March 1 and 25 will have the chance to participate in the Big Win Contest. It will give four lucky winners the opportunity to win guaranteed cash prizes ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh150,000. The names of the four selected participants will be announced on the Big Ticket website on April 1.

March’s promotion also features the chance to win the luxurious Range Rover Velar. The lucky winner will be revealed on May 3, the organisers said.
