Islamabad: The UAE project to assist Pakistan has mobilised caravans carrying food items for displaced families in Pakistan upon the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The $1 million (Dh3.67 million) programme will distribute essential food items to needy families during Ramadan to help them prepare for iftar as they break their fast during the holy month.

The effort comes within the constant keenness of Shaikh Khalifa to improve the living conditions of the impoverished and enable them to return to normal life, said Director of the UAE project to assist Pakistan Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli.

More than 20,000 families will benefit from the food aid programme.

The project is stationed in Pakistan and has rebuilt the infrastructure in educational and health care sectors like roads, bridges, provision of clean water in Swat and other districts to help families affected by natural disasters.
