Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court has ordered a bank marketing representative to pay Dh10,000 in compensation to a man for repeated nuisance calls promoting the bank’s products.

The court also ordered the employee to cover court fees and expenses.

The case stemmed from multiple phone calls the representative made, some late at night, to the plaintiff, prompting the man to file a criminal complaint.

After an investigation, prosecutors referred the case to the criminal court, which convicted the marketer of harassment.

The plaintiff later filed a civil suit seeking Dh100,000 in material and moral damages from both the representative and the bank, along with 9 percent annual interest from the date of the claim.

While the court dismissed the claim against the bank and reduced the amount sought, it found the employee liable for causing repeated annoyance and upheld the award for damages.
