Two of four youngsters from celebrity families who were detained for drug charges have been freed, Dubai Police sources confirmed yesterday.

Shaan Uttam Singh, grandson of Bollywood film producer G.P. Sippy, and Bonito Chhabria, son of Indian automobile designer Dilip Chhabria, were released on Wednesday.

The other two, Farhan Azmi, son of Abu Azim Azmi, Samajwadi Party leader in Maharashtra and MP, and Prasad Divadkar are still being held at the Al Rifaa Police Station.

The four were arrested in a Dubai hotel on October 20, on suspicion of using and possessing drugs. The two still being held under Dubai Public Prosecution jurisdiction have not been formally charged as yet.

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azim Azmi said he believes son Farhan too will go free. "It is just a matter of time before the authorities release him," he told Gulf News. "Farhan talked to his mother today and told her that the inquiry was still going on. He told her not to worry since he was innocent and would return home soon."

The Azmis were also told that the two young men released have been asked by the authorities to stay back in Dubai until the investigation is complete.

The Azmis are convinced that their son is innocent but quite annoyed that he did not tell them of his plans to stay with his friends when he reached Dubai.

Dilip Chhabria meanwhile told Gulf News that he was aware that his son Bonito was going to Dubai with some friends.
