Two men arrested for rape, murder of woman at home

Two men are in custody after the rape and murder of a Sri Lankan woman in her home sparked a massive police manhunt.

The victim, whose name has not been revealed, was living with her husband and her brother, who were at work when the daytime attack took place.

Police said they are holding two men for the murder, which happened within the last two weeks, and said both have confessed to being involved.

The first is a local Indian laundry man and the second is the building's caretaker, also from India, who said he knew who was responsible for the killing but had been too afraid to report it.

The victim lived in the old industrial area of Ajman. Police said the victim's husband and brother, who work in Dubai and Sharjah, arrived home and thought nothing was wrong.

They saw her in bed and thought she was sleeping as nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The husband later discovered that she was not breathing and called the police.

Initial investigations show the woman was raped and strangled because finger marks were found on her neck.

The two suspects, who have also not been named, were arrested after four days of police investigations in the area.
