Twister outpaced the rest of the field to win the Dubai Dinghy Sailing competition held in Jebel Ali last week.

Twister was followed across the line by Irene and Fun & Games with the final handicap adjusted placings reading as Irene in the top position, Fun & Games as second and Al Shuja, third.

Racing conditions were delightful with as many as 26 dinghies and 11 yachts lining up for the Al Hamly Group-sponsored series. The youth dinghy class comprised the biggest fleet in Toppers and Picos with Isaak Hook winning both races to take the series.

A close second was Tara Gillespie, while Florence Daly notched her best results to date with third position.

Dutchmen Maarten Van der Hast and Jeroem Leenan battled for the lead in the Adult Class in the Lasers, each taking a first place in respective races and Marc Slatter pulled off a double third.

However Andy Wilkins' consistent results overall gave him second place in the series with James McConville and Robert O'Kirwan in third.

Sailing a longer course, the colourful catamarans sped around the fleet with the Nacra 18 of Greg and Laurice Wallace powering away to win the first race while John Dean and Jane Nicholson later showed the way to win in their Hobie 16.

The series title was won by Koen and Boudewein Sisselaar.

In the cruiser race, the start line favoured a port hand start with about half the fleet opting that way to begin the two circuits of a long windward/leeward course.

The fleet stayed together for the first half of the upwind leg before waterline length and varying wind strength and direction began to take effect on the competitors.
