Dubai: When residents were asleep after the Eid Al Fitr celebrations over the past few days, the workers of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) were busy at an important assignment—updating all the signage and directional boards at Dubai Metro stations across the emirate.

Dubai Metro users, who hopped on to the trains this morning after the four-day break, would have noticed that several sign boards in the stations have changed.

RTA said it has completed a major update to the signage and directional boards at all Dubai Metro stations as part of its ongoing commitment to improving public transport in Dubai The significant changes are designed to make navigation easier and more straightforward and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

In a post on X, RTA shared details of the update, stating, “As part of its ongoing efforts to support the enhancement of #PublicTransport in #Dubai, #RTA has updated the signage at Metro stations to ensure a smooth and up-to-date travel experience.”

An accompanying video revealed workers diligently replacing the signs throughout the night.

The key improvements include:

Updated Station Entrance and Exit Signs: New signs have been introduced at station entrances and exits, with the exit signs now highlighted in bright yellow boxes for better visibility.

Clearer Platform Directional Indicators: Floor stickers have been added on platforms to assist passengers in navigating the station and locating the right train lines.

Etiquette Message Stickers: These have been placed in various areas to encourage courteous behavior and ensure a comfortable journey for all.

Improved Directions for Train Lines: The updated signboards now clearly indicate which direction passengers should take to reach trains heading to different lanes.

Prominent Women and Children Cabin Signage: The previously subtle floor sign has been replaced with a prominent pink board marked ‘Women and Children Cabin,’ making it easier to identify the dedicated compartment.

Better Platform Numbers and Destination Information: New signs have been added to make platform numbers and destinations clearer, helping passengers find their correct train more easily.

In addition to the physical signage updates, RTA is also making improvements to the digital systems. The changes will be reflected in RTA's smart systems and public transport apps, along with onboard audio announcements.

Earlier in March, RTA had announced plans to update the names of various metro stations, with changes expected to be completed by June.

The announcement was made when Al Khail Metro Station was renamed Al Fardan Exchange Metro Station following the grant of naming rights to Al Fardan Exchange.

RTA is advising metro riders to be aware of these changes and to feel free to approach staff at the stations for assistance with any further details.
