Sharjah: Sharjah Transport has announced there will be more buses plying within Sharjah and between other emirates during the first two days of Eid.

With a 40 per cent increase in the number of intercity buses during the holidays, the transport authority has allocated 79 buses, said Raba’a Mohammad Al Marzouqi, head of the Public Transport Franchise Department at Sharjah Transport.

She also added that the time between each bus trip within the emirate will be reduced to six minutes with the aim of increasing public transport services and accommodating as many passengers as possible. Buses in Sharjah will operate from 6am until 11pm from October 15 to 19.

Sharjah Transport will make 2,996 trips during the first two days of Eid, of which 1,712 will be within Sharjah and 1,284 between emirates. Buses in the emirate are set to accommodate an estimated 102,720 passengers.

Public transport between emirates

With Eid celebrations in the UAE expected to attract large crowds, the number of public transport services between emirates will also see an increase this week. There will also be a 35 per cent increase in the number of buses travelling between emirates with trips starting from 4.30am until midnight during the Eid holidays.

“The services between emirates will accommodate an estimated 110,000 passengers,” said Khalid Al Khayal, Intercity Transport Manager at Sharjah Transport.

The number of bus trips heading from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi will also increase to 185 trips daily as a result of a collaboration between Sharjah Transport, the transport department in Abu Dhabi and the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA).
