Dubai: Smart Rental, the hourly car rental service that was announced last month, will be among a bunch of tech services that the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will unveil at the Gitex Technology Week on Sunday, RTA announced on Saturday.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, announced that the bunch of services will include smart rental, smart parking, smart lighting, Raqeeb system, which monitors bus drivers’ condition, as well as smart Nol upgrades.
“RTA would soon start work on Phase I of the Smart Parking Project, which enables motorists to identify vacant parking slots on Shaikh Zayed Road, and Al Riqqa area, followed by other paid parking zones,” said Al Tayer.
Smart Parking was successfully piloted last year at a section of Shaikh Zayed Road and it is also in operation at Dubai Mall.
“The project would save the hassle of searching for vacant parking slots, and reduce the associated congestion. It enables the search for a specific area to know the number of vacant parking slots, and identify the distance between the location of the vehicle and the nearest vacant parking slot,” said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer added that RTA’s pavilion at Gitex will showcase the details of the new hourly car rental system (smart rental) announced last month by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
“The Smart Rental will support RTA’s efforts in raising the ridership of mass transit means and boosting the integration of transportation systems which facilitate the mobility of public transport commuters, especially metro riders, in reaching their final destinations. The hourly car rental system offers car rental service for up to six hours maximum via smart apps, online channels or telephone,” he said.
