Sharjah: A 60-year-old Iranian woman and a one-year-old Bangladeshi girl were both killed as they were run over by a vehicle in two separate accidents.

A senior police official told Gulf News that the first accident occurred on Tuesday at 4pm when the toddler, Somaya Ali Akbar, was accidentally run over by her brother Abdul Rahman.

The Operations Control Room at Sharjah Police said the incident occurred in the area of Umm Khanoor, while the victim’s brother was reversing the family car out of the driveway and without noticing that his sister was behind him, ran her over. The infant was killed immediately under the wheels of the vehicle.

Police also said that a second accident occurred later in the day along the street of Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, when an Iranian woman identified as Kanees Hassan, crossed the street and was run over by a vehicle heading towards her.

She was killed immediately.

Once notified about the accidents, Anjad patrols immediately rushed to the accident site but were unable to rescue the two victims, who died on the spot. Their bodies were taken to Al Qassimi and Al Kuwait Hospital.

Sharjah Police urges motorists to drive cautiously and within the speed limit, and that pedestrians should always cross the roads using  zebra crossings.
