Not giving way to school buses? Dh1,000 fine, 10 black points

Dubai: A mass of school buses have returned to the UAE’s roads as pupils started their first day of school after Spring Break. 

And on the first day of Term Three, police have warned motorists how to be vigilant on the roads if they want to avoid hefty fines and black points.

While the major routes across Abu Dhabi, and from Sharjah into Dubai were accident-free, a number of interior lanes faced traffic jams as motorists made way for school buses who have once again, become a fixture on the roads.  

To avoid accidents and to protect pupils as they leave and enter school buses, Abu Dhabi Police are reminding drivers to stop when they see school buses pull up on the side of the road.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, director of traffic and patrols directorate in the central operations sector, said: “The number of police patrols supervising the roads will be intensified to ensure that motorists provide a safe environment for pupils to be picked up and dropped off from school buses."

"Failure to comply with the rules means that motorists will be charged with Article 91 of the UAE Traffic Law, which incurs a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points,” he said. 

Brig Al Khaili also pointed out that bus drivers will be monitored to ensure that they use the stop sign when a child enters of leaves the bus.

"School bus drivers who fail to put the stop sign will be fined Dh500 and six black points," he said.
