Move part of Mawaqif 2010 and aimed at managing car parking facilities in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport (DoT) has announced the implementation of Mawaqif paid parking services in the area between Corniche Road, Khalifa Bin Zayed Street and Bani Yas Najda Street, with a total of 447 parking bays, starting from Sunday.
This step is part of Mawaqif 2010 plan, revealed earlier this year, aiming to manage car parking facilities in Abu Dhabi.
Paid parking is enforced from 8am to 9pm, Saturdays to Thursdays, at a rate of Dh3 per hour for premium parking (the colour of the curbstones are turquoise and white) with a maximum stay of four hours, and Dh2 per hour or Dh15 per day for standard parking (the colour of the curbstones are turquoise and black).
Najeeb Al Zarouni, general manager of parking at the Department of Transport, said: "Mawaqif was created to serve the community and its role is not limited to the implementation of paid parking services. Department of Transport is introducing additional services and have issued tenders for the provision of automated car parking facilities, car parking structures in a number of areas, with the aim of providing comprehensive and sustainable solutions to address the growing need for parking."
Residents can apply for permits from the Mawaqif customer service centres. Permits allow road users to park in any available standard parking bay in the area where they live.
By clearly displaying the permit on the vehicle dashboard, they will be exempt from paying hourly or daily tariffs.
This permit is available to owners or tenants and the first of kin residing with them — mother, father, spouse and children — with a maximum of two permits per household.
