Dubai: One man was killed and five other people sustained serious injuries after they were involved in a traffic accident in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday morning.
The fatal accident happened on the Rams-Shamal road, Ras Al Khaimah’s new Ring Road.
According to police, three Asians and two Emirati women sustained moderate to serious injuries.
“The accident occurred on a road that was not yet officially opened to the public,” said Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations room at Ras Al Khaimah police.
A head-on collision between the two vehicles led to one of them ending up engulfed in flames, and killing the Asian driver.
The central operations room of Ras Al Khaimh Police immediately alerted traffic police. Ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams rushed to the accident site, and the victims were transferred to hospital for treatment.
“Motorists should not use roads and streets that are still under construction and not opened to the public, since they are not prepared for traffic and do not have the proper road signs,” he said.
Brig Al Humaidi explained that using such roads pose a threat to the lives of motorists, and also urged residents to adhere to traffic rules and abide by the speed limit.
