Dubai: Motorists on UAE roads have to regularly face the common mistake of others who change lanes without indicating.
But it looks like the roads are getting a lot safer, as Dubai Police are now slapping fines against drivers who suddenly swerve on lanes and fail to use their indicators.

A Gulf News reader shared a photo of a traffic fine issued recently, proving that Dubai Police are serious about putting a stop to such traffic violations.
Sudden swerving and failing to use indicators can cost motorists as much as Dh1,400 in fines, in addition to four black points.
The traffic fine is part of the UAE’s revised traffic law, which was implemented in July 2017.
According to the UAE’s amended federal traffic law, sudden swerving carries a fine of Dh1,000, while not using indicators will carry a Dh400 fine.
The traffic violation is not only a hazard to other motorists, but is also the main cause of accidents on the roads.

The Ministry of Interior recorded that the number one cause for road-related accidents and deaths was swerving, followed by poor decisions made by drivers, and not keeping enough distance between cars.
The ministry aims to bring down the road fatalities by three persons per 100,000 of residents by 2021, said Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, director general of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior.
In the first six months of 2017, traffic police recorded 2,133 road accidents, a 15.35 per cent drop compared to 2,520 during the same period in 2016.
