Fujairah: Police seized 121 vehicles last week for violating instructions issued by His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah.
Earlier this month, Shaikh Hamad ordered that youths who gather at night in residential areas and drive recklessly be penalised.
Brigadier Mohammad Ahmad Bin Ganem Al Kaabi, commander-in-chief of Fujairah Police, said that police forces immediately started carrying out Shaikh Hamad’s instructions. Night-time patrols were boosted to crack down on youths gathering in residential areas.
“The Fujairah Ruler’s instructions will limit the reckless manner of some youths who flout traffic norms and disturb the privacy of residents in the emirate,” Al Kaabi said.
He said the directives were also being applied against those performing dangerous stunts on roads.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated, even for a short time,” he added.
He urged residents to immediately report such incidents to the police.
Under the law, endangering the lives, health, security or freedom of others is punishable by a jail sentence.
