Dubai: Water taxis at Dubai Creek and other tourists spots across Dubai will be inaugurated by the Roads and Transport Authority on Wednesday, with five water taxis becoming operational between 10am and 10pm.
"The water taxi fares depend on the length and type of trip. Tourist trip fares are Dh400 per hour for one water taxi, while the regular journey ranges between the Dh50 to the nearest stations, namely the Dubai Creek Park (A, B).
"The fare will be up to Dh570 for the trip between the two farthest stations, namely the stations of Dubai Festival City and the Jebel Ali Hotel and Spa for Boating and Yachting," said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
The service covers 18 locations on the Dubai Creek and tourist spots in Dubai that are linked with hotels, marine clubs and tourist locations, including the stations of Al Mamzar, Deira Old Souq, Al Sabkha, Bani Yas, Dubai Festival City, Al Shindagha, Bur Dubai, Al Faheidi, Al Seef, Dubai Creek Park (A,B), Al Boom Tourist Village, Jumeirah Open Beach, Jumeirah Beach Park, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai Marina, Jebel Ali Hotel and Spa and the Atlantis Hotel.
Future additions
New locations in the Meridian Mina Seyahi Hotel and Royal Mirage Hotel will be added in the future.
Al Tayer explained that the taxi is characterised by its sleek design, which combines the traditional form with modernity represented by the ceiling that is derived from the design of the Dubai Metro stations.
He said that they will be air-conditioned and seats will be comfortable and reclinable, and will include LCD televisions.
The water taxi can seat 11 passengers in addition to the commander, and 20 per cent of the seats will be dedicated for people with special needs.
