The new fleet will comply with the stringent European 'Euro 6' low-emission standards
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a landmark Dh1.1 billion agreement to supply 637 new buses, further expanding and modernizing the city’s public transport fleet.
These vehicles comply with the European “Euro 6” low-emission standards and include 40 electric buses, marking the UAE’s largest and first-of-their-kind order. Delivery of the buses is scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
Dubai’s selection as host of the 2026 UITP Global Public Transport Summit reflects the emirate’s rising global profile and the strength of its integrated infrastructure, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority.
'The selection affirms Dubai’s global standing in organizing major international events and highlights the efficiency of its advanced public transport and mass transit systems,' Al Tayer said.
The share of journeys made via public transport and shared mobility has risen from just 6% in 2006 to 21.6% in 2024, driven by ongoing investments in infrastructure and service expansion.
Al Tayer noted that the recent procurement of 637 new buses will further expand bus services across the emirate and support Dubai’s long-term sustainability goals. The new vehicles are a key part of RTA’s strategy to transition towards a 100% electric and hydrogen-powered public bus fleet by 2050.
