Dubai: Use of public transport is expected to increase in November once the Dubai Tram begins serving commuters in the densely populated areas of new Dubai.

Dubai Tram will connect big residential, commercial and tourism projects such as Dubai Marina, Media City, Internet City, Knowledge Village and a number of luxury hotels.

It will also be aligned with the Dubai Metro and the Palm Jumeirah Monorail to encourage more commuters to use public transport as part of Dubai’s integrated Mass Transit system.

The transport networks will be connected through footbridges at stations.

Operating 20 hours daily, Dubai Tram will run between 5am and 1am. A fleet of 11 trams will operate in the first phase of the project, covering 10.6km from Al Sufouh to Dubai Marina.

The trams will operate at six-minute intervals during peak hours and 8-10 minutes during non-peak hours.

One round trip will take around 39 minutes, with the tram moving at an average speed of 21.44km/h. It can achieve a maximum speed of 50km/h.

Around 370 passengers will be accommodated per tram, which will be 44 metres in length.
