Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police seized 626 vehicles for causing noise and disturbance in the emirate in the first quarter of this year, police said on Friday.
These vehicles were confiscated between January 1 and March 31.
Playing music at a high volume to attract people’s attention is also against the traffic rules and invites fines and confiscation of vehicles, police said.
Generating noise pollution is in violation of Article 20 of the UAE Traffic Law and it attracts fines up to Dh2,000 and 12 black points.
Lieutenant-Colonel Khalifa Al Khaili, director of the Traffic Control Department, said noisy vehicles generate noise pollution and hamper other drivers’ behaviour on the road, which causes accidents. It may also cause the vehicle to deviate from its course and cause traffic accidents.
He called on motorists, especially young drivers, to avoid raising the noise levels and cause inconvenience to other road users by honking and excessive acceleration.
Al Khaili urged drivers not to use the horns excessively, especially near hospitals and schools, and not to use it negatively to catch other motorists’ attention to clear the road. It distracts them from the road and causes accidents.
In a related event, Abu Dhabi Police held a road traffic awareness camp where 600 school bus drivers were educated about the road safety rules and traffic fines.
The event aimed to reduce the breach of traffic rules by bus drivers that attracts black points against them. The drivers were from Emirates Transport.
