Abu Dhabi: in view of heavy traffic expected to occurred on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, the Department of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior has announced guidelines for the public in order to ensure that members of the public have a safe and happy holiday.

They have requested that parents and family members stay vigilant in order to ensure that young children remain away from roads and traffic heavy areas, so that they are not injured or run over by cars, as they are not as aware of their surroundings as adults are.

Families who plan on going to the beach are advised to be aware of where their children are, as accidental drowning could occur as a result of underwater currents in some areas. Those who are taking their families to the park should take care when their children are playing, as there are sometimes uncovered holes, or other issues that need to be taken into consideration.

For those wishing to do a barbeque, there are designated areas in public parks to do so. They are encouraged to use those facilities and not to have a barbeque on the balcony of their apartments, as flakes could enter the home and start a fire.

The public are also encouraged to maintain safety in their homes by ensuring that all of their electrical appliances are safely removed, stored or plugged in so that no sparks will be emitted that could cause a fire. They should also be on alert when visiting Eid tents for any electrical outlet or areas of concern that could cause a fire or injury to visitors.

Parents are also urged to take care when leaving their children in the care of a nanny or maid, as in past year, 11 children have died and three have been injured as a result of neglect on the part of the caretaker.

Children wishing to ride bicycles are urged to do so in designated areas on the corniche and in public parks, and not near buildings. They are also requested not to perform acrobatic stunts, as that could cause injury to themselves and those around them.

Drivers are requested to follow traffic regulations and to respect their fellow commuters. Those who are caught driving recklessly or violating traffic laws will face serious consequences.

For any emergencies, the public is urged to contact the Civil Defence department on 997 and the police on 999.
