The new condensate processing plant of the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co (Takreer) at Ruwais has begun full commercial production of 280,000 barrels per day (bpd). The two condensate distillation units went into commercial production on May 26 with the start-up of Train 1. Train 2 went into commercial production on September 26, the company said yesterday.

"Both trains have demonstrated their capability to yield high-quality value added products and this represents a solid achievement for Takreer in increasing the integration ratio of finished hydrocarbon products to crude oil exports," the company said.

The identical condensate distillation units (Trains 1 and 2), the largest of their kind in the world with a capacity of 140,000 bpd, yield liquid petroleum gas (LPG), kerosene and jet fuel, diesel and residue products, and light, medium and heavy naphtha streams.

The support facilities include utilities systems, 23 floating roof storage tanks and products blending and shipping systems.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was awarded to Italy's Snamprogetti in July 1997. The tankage sub-contract was awarded to the UAE's National Petroleum Construction Co (NPCC).
