Abu Dhabi: Authorities in the UAE capital are giving a unique gift to its residents on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr: a 24-hour mega sale in 14 malls starting at 10am this Friday, offering discounts up to 90 per cent on more than 500 brands. As part of Eid celebrations as well as to mark the onset of the annual Abu Dhabi Summer Season, the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi (DCT) has partnered with 14 malls to offer a festive shopping experience.
Malls taking part in the mega-sale are: Yas Mall, World Trade Centre (WTC) Mall, Al Jimi Mall, Dalma Mall, Nation Towers, Marina Mall, Mushrif Mall, Al Wahda Mall, Khalidiya Mall, Madinat Zayed Shopping Center, Raha Mall, Mazyad Mall, Barari Mall and Foah Mall.
The shopping bonanza will also feature a line-up of entertainment as well as activities designed to offer memorable moments for families, residents and visitors of all ages. Shoppers also stand to win exciting prizes including a Tesla Model X car, three million Etihad Guest Miles and hourly giveaways.
Celebrities
Those needing a break from shopping can catch a selfie with social media star MoVlogs at Yas Mall or Arab comedian BinBaz at The Mall at WTCAD. Both celebrities will be at the malls to meet and greet fans and will share pictures of the sale online.
Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, executive director of the Tourism Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The Eid celebrations and Abu Dhabi Summer Season are annual anchor activations that aim to underpin the emirate’s credentials as a destination of distinction during the summer, especially for families looking for unmissable experiences and offers.
“It forms part of our strategy to incentivise the private sector and tourism industry and get them involved in event development while building both regional and international awareness of the emirate’s appeal.” The mega sale will be followed by the Abu Dhabi Summer Season (ADSS) returning in its fifth edition from June 21 to August 18.
Prizes
Shoppers at Yas Mall with minimum spend of Dh300 may win a Tesla Model X electric car worth Dh370,000. Customers can earn double coupons from 2 to 8am. There will be hourly spot prizes of Yas Mall Gift Cards worth a total Dh21,000 from midnight to 6am.
The Mall at WTCAD will give away three million Etihad Guest Miles. Every hour throughout the one-day sale customers can win 100,000 Etihad Guest Miles, the equivalent of a business class flight to Thailand, Brisbane or South Africa. Late night shoppers will receive one Etihad Guest Mile for every dirham spent between midnight and 6am.
Al Jimi Mall will give away nearly Dh100,000 in the 24-hour event. Customers spending Dh200 in any store at Al Jimi Mall may win Dh2,500 every hour until midnight. This will be doubled to a grand prize of Dh5,000 every hour after midnight.
