Sharjah to stage its first solar energy conference

The University of Sharjah in cooperation with the World Renewable Energy Congress (WREN) will hold Sharjah's first Solar Energy Conference from February 19 to 22.

The conference, "Solar Energy is a Main Option for the Region," will bring together scientists and experts to discuss the application of renewable energy in the Arab world.

The Arab Section of the Solar Energy Society, the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) and the Florida Solar Energy Centre will participate.

A team of scientists and experts from related organisations will be formed at the conference to develop solar energy activities. The university's Research Centre has adopted solar energy as its main research line and is string to identify the country's needs.

The conference will try to identify the most feasible and cost-effective applications. It will review the conservation and efficient use of traditional energy sources, and discuss the implications of solar energy.
