RCA to launch world's largest charity box

The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) is set to make an international record by launching the world's largest savings box to collect donations for its charitable activities. According to the authority, the world's largest savings box will be inaugurated at Abu Dhabi's Marina Mall during a colourful ceremony on November 2.

The event will start at 10am with more than 500 schoolchildren, in colourful costumes, chanting slogans for humanitarian services and singing songs in support of worldwide charitable activities. The Abu Dhabi Police Band will also perform.

After the inauguration of the box and collection of donations around Marina Mall, it will be moved to other parts of the capital.

The box is shaped like a crescent and will be taken around the country on a decorated truck. The box, which is being given its final touches, is likely to be around four metres high and five metres wide.

The truck will visit government establishments such as oil companies and departments so that employees can donate. It will also be taken to commercial areas in the city, hotels and shopping malls such as Abu Dhabi Mall to collect donations.

After 11 days in the capital, the truck will spend three days each in the Western Region, Al Ain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, while it will spend two days each in Umm Al Quwain and Ajman.

In Sharjah the box will collect donations for four days and arrive in Dubai on December 2 where it will collect donations for five days, before heading back to the capital.

"The theme and idea of the mobile charity box is to raise awareness about humanitarian services among the people of the country," a spokesman of the authority said.

He said the donations collected through the 35-day campaign will be given to RCA charity works.
