Sharjah: Sharjah’s Al Sajaa Industrial Area, a focal point for mass iftars during the fasting month, witnessed a unique Ramadan gathering organised by a group of bald men.

Members of the UAE chapter of Motta Global – a group that celebrates baldness instead of stigmatising it – hosted more than 1,000 blue-collar workers for a community iftar this week. The UAE chapter is part of a larger network formed in Kerala last August, which has grown to 1,370 bald individuals from various backgrounds across 34 countries. Currently, the UAE chapter is home to 146 bald Keralites.

He noted that the successful conduct of the event was a result of months of planning and fruitful collaboration with the Dubai-based non-profit organisation Model Service Society (MSS).

Muhammed Shafi, a member of Motta Global and MSS, pointed out that such initiatives ease the burden of fasting for labourers.

“In this holy month, we wanted to ensure that these hardworking individuals, who often spend long hours away from their families, could feel a sense of community and belonging,” he said.

Spirit of Ramadan

Fifty bald members and more than a dozen volunteers ensured smooth operations during the iftar.

Many workers expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture, which highlighted inclusivity.

“There are so many different nationalities sitting together to end their fast. Such initiatives recognise the working class and spread the message of love and acceptance,” said Sani Abubaker, a worker.

Kabeer, another Motta Global member, underlined that the group is committed to making a more meaningful impact on the community.

“We will continue to support similar initiatives that foster social cohesion and assist underserved communities,” he said.
