The "Dubai - the City that Cares 2000" Ramadan promotion will hand out Dh5.2 million in prizes to lucky shoppers from November 22 to December 30.
The "Dubai - the City that Cares 2000" Ramadan promotion will hand out Dh5.2 million in prizes to lucky shoppers from November 22 to December 30.
Under the theme "Big Spender, Big Winner" the shopping promotion, organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will devote 20 per cent of the cash prizes charity.
Chamber Director-General Abdul Rahman Al Mutaiwee yesterday said that the promotion aims to boost sales during a traditionally quiet month.
Shoppers will receive a raffle coupon for every Dh100 they spend at any "Dubai - The City That Cares 2000" outlets.
He said this year's event will carry a logo of a caller ("musaharati" in Arabic), a traditional personality in the Middle East during the Holy Month of Ramadan. He wakes up the faithful for Suhoor, the meal eaten at midnight to prepare them for the next day's fast, by banging a drum and singing a song.
The Chamber's Ahmed Al Banna, General Coordinator for "Dubai - The City That Cares 2000", said the start of this event will coincide with the second Dubai Charity Meeting to be held in Deira City Centre over four days.
The Chamber will give away 10 daily prizes of Dh5,000 worth of vouchers.
The grand prize is Dh1.5 million distributed among 12 winners as follows: first prize Dh500,000, second Dh250,000, five prizes of Dh100,000 and five prizes of Dh50,000.
"Each raffle coupon will have a scratch-and-win portion where shoppers can win instant cash prizes or gifts," he said. The total value of the scratch-and-win prizes is Dh650,000.
The "Big Spender, Bigger Winner" event includes other activities and promotions for specific retail sectors for the first time, and there are three sector promotions running for 13 days. They are textiles, ready-made garments and furniture from November 22 to December 4, electronic home appliances and cars from December 5 to 17, and gold, jewellery, watches, cosmetics and perfumes from December 18 to 30. Each will include raffles for 30 prizes of Dh10,000.
Sales during last year's event, which lasted 47 days, totalled Dh1.5 billion.
