Dubai: The Quran has the power to melt hearts and sooth souls, said Dr Essam Al Owaid addressing the audience at the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) on Tuesday.

Preparations are now under way for the launch of the Quran Contest on Friday.

Contestants from around the world have begun to arrive and the initial qualification round has begun.

The ‘Lectures Programme’ of the Quran awards was held on Tuesday.

The fourth night lecture titled “How to taste the sweetness of Quran,” was given by eminent Saudi scholar Dr Al Owaid.

He reflected on various aspects of the Quran that can help bring happiness in daily life.

He said: “When someone listens to the Holy Book of Allah he feels relaxed and the feeling even extends to the Muslims who do not know Arabic.”

However, he said people should first know how to listen to the Quran to have the desired effect. “If we listen with due attention and respect than the Holy Quran will be able to solve all our problems that we face in life,” he emphasised.

The fourth day of the lectures programme was sponsored by the General Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (Dubai) and the Union Cooperative Society.

Major General Mohammed Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of the Dubai General Department for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (DNRD) attended the event and lauded the support to the award by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

He also stated that the award has gained immense popularity across the world, and has developed into a premier Quran competition.

He said the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, through its international competition, is an opportunity for all memorisers of the Quran from all over the world to be in Dubai to showcase their talent.
