The accident at Dubai Drydocks that claimed 29 lives last month has been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecutor for investigation, it was revealed yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Sharafuddin Hussein, Dubai Police Assistant Commander General for Criminal Investigation, explained that the role of the police in this case is only limited to investigations that assist the Public Prosecutor to take necessary actions.

Therefore the police questioned officials in charge of the sites.

From the initial investigation, it was discovered that proper precautionary measures at the docks were not taken.

He said the docks are always exposed to danger due to the heavy weights they handle. But he did not accuse any authority of the carelessness that led to the disaster.

He added that investigations and preparation of technical reports are still under study and scrutiny.

He confirmed that two bodies are still missing, and that they will be found after the water in the docks is pumped out and the gate repaired.

Twenty-nine workers drowned last month when the gate of the Number 2 dry dock collapsed.
