Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) has set a productivity record with its Super Post Panamax container handling gantry cranes handling 187.7 vessel moves per hour over a 15-hour period for the vessel MSC Rosella.
The highest previous productivity level was 176.2 moves per hour on MSC Diego. "DPA continued to break all previously held container handling records representing the highest productivity on MSC vessels calling at DPA," Managing Director Jamal Majid bin Thaniah said.
The cranes manufactured and supplied by the Japanese company Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co arrived at the Jebel Ali container terminal last year to bring the total number of gantry cranes to 25 between DPA's twin terminals.
Ten new rubber-tyred gantry cranes also began operation in Jebel Ali terminal last year, joining the 30 already in use. The new record supports the success of DPA's dual investment approach of sustained investment in both specialised technology systems and the more traditional hardware associated with port operations.
