Dubai: A growing number of Dubai residents are opting for staycations over travelling abroad during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Families and friends told Gulf News that, with a variety of scenic locales to explore in the country and savings on soaring airfare prices, time, and other expenses, a trip to local attractions is a wise decision.

Maroun Farah is on a road trip to Ras Al Khaimah with his family, including three children.

“For our family, it’s all about making the most of our time and budget. I decided to visit RAK well in advance as it offers the perfect getaway with its beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and adventure activities in the Jebel Jais mountains – all without the hassle of international travel.”

He underlined that visiting places within the country can be just as exciting as travelling abroad, especially with the diverse culture, stunning landscapes, and unique experiences right at the doorstep.

“Staying within the UAE not only saves us money but also gives us the opportunity to discover hidden gems we’ve never visited before. It’s a win-win for both our family and our wallet,” Farah said.

‘Easy on the pocket’

Meanwhile, Khaled Osman, a father of two boys, is visiting Hatta during the holidays.

“We’ve decided to explore Hatta because it offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for the whole family. The scenic mountains, peaceful landscapes, and outdoor activities like camping, kayaking, and hiking are ideal for creating memories without the stress of long flights and high costs,” Osman said, noting that the destination is just a short drive from Dubai, which makes it even more convenient.

He underlined that a budget-friendly staycation is easy on his pocket.

“I don’t have to worry about hefty airfares and can also set a clear budget for the trip. With skyrocketing flight tickets, it’s more practical for us to enjoy local destinations in the UAE, especially the beauty of Hatta. Why leave the country when you have such exotic places to visit here?”

‘Spirit is unmatched’

While some residents are flying abroad for vacation, others, like Manoj Sadanandan has cut short his leave and returned to Dubai in time to celebrate the festival with his friends Pradeep K.N. and Lince Jose by visiting local attractions.

“I went home to participate in our temple ‘ulsavam’ (festival) in Kerala and am back to mark the Eid holidays with my friends by visiting places in Dubai,” he said.

Sadanandan underlined that for Dubai residents, the best vacation is just a drive away.

“I can’t think of any other city to celebrate Eid – surrounded by my friends, the vibrant energy of the city, countless places to explore, and delicious food to savour. Dubai’s festive spirit is unmatched, and that’s what makes it feel like home.”
