Abu Dhabi: The Al Wathba Festival for Livestock and Agriculture, now running through January 28, 2025, is drawing massive crowds from around the world, eager to witness an impressive showcase of rare and extraordinary animals and plants.

Among the highlights of this year’s festival is the Albino Fish, renowned for producing the world’s most expensive caviar, which is attracting considerable attention from premium caviar lovers.

The striking fish, with its golden-yellow hue, yields caviar that fetches a staggering Dh20,000 per kilogram at the factory level. However, once it is exported, the price escalates to Dh70,000 per kilogram. The caviar is coveted not only for its rare origins but also for its rich, unique flavour, making it a symbol of luxury for high-end connoisseurs.

Biodiversity

As the festival continues to spotlight biodiversity and innovation, the livestock sector also showcases breeds with extraordinary qualities and high market value.

The Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award Pavilion features rare livestock breeds, such as:

1-The Najdi Breed, celebrated for its remarkable endurance and speed, making it highly sought after for camel racing and prized for its milk production.

2-The Hari Breed, known for its resilience in harsh desert climates, as well as its high-quality meat and milk that contribute significantly to the region’s agricultural economy.

3-The Naimi Breed, distinguished by its size, exceptional speed, and superior meat and milk yield, securing its place as a key asset in livestock farming.

These livestock breed not only enriches the agricultural landscape but also have substantial economic value, much like the rare fish species, highlighting the region’s commitment to preserving biodiversity while enhancing agricultural productivity.

Unique flowers

In addition to the animal exhibits, the festival also captivates visitors with its rare and unique flowers. Among them are the Pink Quill Tillandsia and the Kuwait Towers Plant, both of which stand out for their stunning colours and intricate forms. A spider-shaped plant adds to the intrigue, leaving attendees in awe of nature’s creativity.

The festival also embraces creativity, with interactive activities like cupcake decorating using edible flowers and showcasing floral-inspired fashion designs. These artistic displays beautifully merge the worlds of nature and fashion, offering visitors an immersive experience.

The Al Wathba Livestock Festival is one of the region’s largest events dedicated to agricultural excellence and innovation, held under the theme “Innovative Farmers and Breeders with a Sustainable Vision.” The event encourages breeders to adopt top-tier, productive breeds, raise awareness about best practices, and promote the growth of sustainable farming practices — whether for livestock or the rare fish that continue to surprise and captivate the global market.
