The PM is expected to discuss several regional and global issues on this trip
Abu Dhabi: Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in the UAE for a one-day visit. He was received at Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Airport by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser.
Sharif is visiting the UAE at the invitation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Several members of his delegation are accompanying him on the trip, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar; Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir; Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi; and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
This marks the Prime Minister’s second visit to the UAE this year, following his trip in February to attend the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.
Since assuming office in 2022, Shehbaz Sharif has made multiple official visits to the UAE, primarily focused on business and trade. These continued engagements highlight the deepening ties between the UAE and Pakistan.
The UAE and Pakistan have shared a strong bilateral relationship since the 1970s, rooted in enduring economic cooperation.
In addition to Sharif’s visits, many UAE officials frequently travel to Pakistan for governmental affairs. Most recently, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Islamabad for a two-day trip in April. A key highlight of that visit was the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), including one aimed at establishing a UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council.
The strength of these economic ties is reflected in tangible results. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Tirmizi, noted that bilateral trade reached over USD 10.9 billion during the 2023–2024 fiscal year, according to WAM.
“These figures reflect not only the strength of our economic partnership but also the vital role played by the Pakistani diaspora in supporting the national economy,” Tirmizi stated.
This economic progress has been building over many years. According to the UAE Foreign Trade Report, public and private sector investments in Pakistan have exceeded $10 billion over the past two decades.
Another key pillar of the UAE-Pakistan relationship is the vibrant Pakistani community in the Emirates. With over one million overseas Pakistanis residing in the UAE, their presence strengthens social bonds between the two nations and contributes significantly to economic activity.
