New technology school to open in Sharjah
The new Sharjah Institute of Technology (SIT) will open its doors next month to provide technical training to UAE national students.
The new educational and training institute, which has been established under an Emiri decree issued by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, will be run under the supervision of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA).
The main objective of the institute, which is located on King Faisal Road near the Sharjah University City, is to help national students receive technical education in various fields to meet the current and future demands of the job market.
A meeting of the institute's executive committee was held yesterday to finalise the arrangements for the institute with Ahmed Nasir Al Fardan, deputy director of SEWA and chairman of the committee, in the chair.
The institute has been set up after a thorough study recommending the need to train national workforce covering various fields of technology in order to meet the changing job market requirements.
Its main aim is to serve and support the community members and enable students to get the highest level of training.
The institute is set to receive its first batch from September 1. The committee also reviewed facilities including the latest equipment and housing facilities for students coming from the Eastern Region and other remote areas.
